Health
Large dog breeds including Bernese are prone to issues that can significantly affect their health and longevity. While perfect lifelong health cannot be promised, responsible breeders can significantly reduce health risks and improve health outcomes, ease of movement and longevity through health testing and careful selection of breeding dogs from historically healthy lineages. We select breeding dogs with sound conformation and structure, who are screened for Hip and Elbow Displasia and undergo full genetic testing (including for Von Willebrand Disease (VWD) and Degenerative Myopathy (DM)). ​

​With a background in nutrition and scientific research, it is my passion to stay current and implement the latest in Bernese nutrition, health and breeding information into our programme. Our Bernese:

Consume a diet high in raw content that is calculated to ensure they grow at a healthy rate and according to their nutritional requirements. They also consume some high quality grain-free kibble which is made in NZ and does not contain ingredients that can be harmful to Bernese digestive systems, such as chicken by-products that have been cooked at high temperatures.

Are supplemented naturally with homeopathic and herbal remedies which keep their immune systems and bodies in top condition

Regularly receive fresh bones and chews which help keep their teeth clean

Are raised on friction reducing mats and carefully managed to protect their joints

Are regularly groomed, undergo skin checks and veterinary health checks

Receive acupuncture and osteopathic treatments where necessary

Receive plenty of activity, stimulation and socialisation

Receive Enhanced Neurological Stimulation from 3 days old

Females are retired from breeding by 5 years of age

Are naturally treated for fleas and worms with herbal and homeopathic remedies
We also ensure that our clients are equipped with the knowledge and tools to maintain the optimal health that our puppies are bred and raised with. The result is healthy Bernese who create years of happy memories - our greatest success, together!

We love to see our clients succeeding with their puppies and dogs and while it is fantastic to receive photos and updates, it is important to us that they also feel comfortable reaching out with questions and asking for guidance. We produce high quality, healthy puppies with affectionate temperaments from exceptional pedigrees, raised responsibly. Our magnificent breeding dogs are from champion European lines of top breeders, imported from Poland and Hungary, with traditional European drafty conformation and sound structure. We keep the breed standard in mind, while constantly looking to make further improvements to our lines and for exceptional potential breeders with traits best suited to our client's needs and lifestyles. Our puppies are raised with love, have freedom to run and play on our land and have excellent socialisation opportunities from children, pets and farm animals to trucks and machinery - our pups have seen it all!
